The field is considered a subspecialty of cardiology, and specialists in cardiac electrophysiology are known as a cardiac electrophysiologists or electrophysiologists. These doctors are trained to perform studies in arrhythmia (uneven heart beat) and surgically implant devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators to control heart rhythms.
