Dr. Abrams received his undergraduate degree from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan in 1951, and his M.D. from the University of Michigan in 1955. He performed his internship and residency in Anatomic Pathology at the University of Michigan Medical School. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Pathology (Anatomic Pathology). Dr. Abrams joined the University of Michigan Department of Pathology faculty in 1959, becoming an Assistant Professor in 1963, an Associate Professor in 1966, Professor of Pathology in 1969, and Professor Emeritus in 2002. He served as an attending Surgical Pathologist in University Hospital, with subspecialty interests in gastrointestinal and cardiovascular pathology, and also as Director of Anatomic Pathology from 1985 to 1989. He has conducted research in the area of gastrointestinal microbial ecology and infections, and also in the area of ischemic myocardial injury. He continues currently to serve as course director, lecturer, and lab instructor in the medical curriculum.
