Dr. Ellner is Chief of the Section of Infectious Diseases at Boston Medical Center and Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine.Dr. Ellner is internationally recognized for his research on tuberculosis and its interactions and HIV infection.  He has published more than 250 original articles in the peer-reviewed scientific literature.  He was the principal architect of the Uganda-Case Western Reserve University Research Collaboration extended to UMDNJ and is the founding member of the Academic Alliance for AIDS Care and Prevention in Africa.  Dr. Ellner was principal investigator of the Clinical Diagnostics Research Consortium from the NIH evaluated investigation of TB diagnostics in endemic areas.  He currently is principal investigator of the Boston University-Rutgers University TB Research Unit which studies paucibacillary TB.  He also is PI of RePORT India and RePORT Brazil.  These are prospective observational cohort studies to characterize host biomarkers of risk of progression from TB Infection to active diseases and risk that TB patients will fail treatment.
