Biography

 "Dr. Thomas Kunt earned his degree from the Johannes-Gutenberg-University in Mainz, Germany. He received the Albert-Knoll-Award for his scientific work on vascular complications in diabetes mellitus. EXPERIENCE Dr. Kunt became a Consultant in Internal Medicine and sub-specialized in the field of Endocrinology & Diabetology in 1998. He has worked as an intensivist and emergency physician for many years and organized as lead physician the ambulance network of the palatinate region in Germany. He also worked as an Assistant Professor at the Johannes-Gutenberg-University and was awarded the title of an Associate Professor of Medicine in 2000. At the same university, he established a research lab, developed and reviewed new laboratory assays and was certified as good-laboratory-practice physician. He was Chief of Medicine at the Hospital of Annweiler, Germany until 2002 and at the Sheikh Zayed Military Hospital in Abu Dhabi from 2002 onwards. In 2006, he was heading a Private Diabetes Center in Berlin and served as Consultant for the German Federal Ministry of Health. He was the representative of Germany within the International Diabetes Federation and facilitator of the WHO/IDF diabetes declaration in Germany for the German Federal Government. After an interim as Medical Director for an affiliation of the Joslin Diabetes Center, he returned to Abu Dhabi to fulfill his passion in the field of diabetes care and to implement his vast knowledge and experience in international standards of care for diabetic patients, as part of the team of German experts at the new HealthPlus Diabetes & Endocrinology Center in partnership with Diabetes Zentrum Mergentheim (DZM) in Germany. Dr. Thomas Kunt is the Medical Director at the HealthPlus Diabetes & Endocrinology Center. He has led the HealthPlus Diabetes & Endocrinology Center in partnership with DZM to establish it as a center of excellence in Diabetes & Endocrinology care in Abu Dhabi before joining us at DAE. Dr. Kunt’s clinical focus lies in Diabetes & Endocrinology and he was a member of the Guideline Task Force of the “International Diabetes Federation (IDF)”, and the Guideline Committee of the German Diabetes Association. He is a co-founder of the International C-Peptide Research Group and was a consultant on many new drug developments as well as insulin injection and real-time glucose-monitoring devices. He has published numerous scientific papers in the field of diabetes and gives lectures on a regular basis worldwide."
