Biography

Dr. Maurizio Bertoni is specialized in Orthopedics and Traumatology. His fields of intervention are surgery of the knee and shoulder. For many years, he dedicated his professional activity to the prevention and rehabilitation of athletes’ injuries. Dr. Bertoni is the Adjunct Professor in the Department of Sports Medicine and Nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh. Plus, he is a Visiting Fellow at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, for the Department of Sports Medicine and at the Columbia University in New York for the Department of Shoulder Surgery. He teaches in the Bachelor of Sports Science Programme of the University of Florence, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Maurizio Bertoni is the founder and Director of Training Lab at the Center for Rehabilitation and Performance. The Center is affiliated with the University of Florence and the University of Pittsburgh; within these institutions, he conducts researches in the field of prevention of sports injuries and athletic performance improvement. Dr. Maurizio Bertoni is an Orthopaedic Consultant for many Football, Rugby, Volleyball Tennis and Golf teams. He is part of the Italian Rugby Federation’s medical team and holds responsibility for health care organization at of international rugby meetings taking place in Florence. As an Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Bertoni has performed thousands of operations of the knee and shoulder for different diseases: knee meniscus-ligament alterations, shoulder joint instability, shoulder rotator cuff lesions, knee arthritic deformity and shoulder prosthetic interventions. He specializes in knee and shoulder surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, also performing surgical activity at the Istituto Ortopedico Toscano Florence (IOT) and various private clinics in Florence and Bologna.
