Dr Mathew G. Wilson (PhD) is Aspetar's'Lead Performance Physiologist and Head of Athlete Health and Performance Research. Previously, Dr Wilson has served as Laboratory Director at the Research Centre for Sports and Exercise Performance at the University of Wolverhampton and as the Cardiac Screening Manager for the CRY Centre for Sports Cardiology within the Olympic Medical Institute, UK. His research focus is on the athlete's' heart and mechanisms of sudden cardiac death in young and veteran athletes. Dr Wilson has screened over 10,000 athletes, which has led to the production of over 60 peer-reviewed scientific publications. This research has provided internationally recognised best practice models for cost-effective screening protocols and has produced new baseline cardiologic data for ethnically diverse populations.
