Biography

 Dr. Mariam Georgette Awatai is a Senior Obstetrician and Gynecologist who has developed and maintained a special interest in Feto- Maternal Medicine, High Risk Obstetrics, Minimal Access Surgery, Medical Education and Clinical Governance. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FRCOG). In addition, she has been awarded the Certificate of Completion of Specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynecology, UK (post CCT, UK) in 2005. She has attained a Diploma in Advanced Obstetric Ultrasound from the Royal College of Radiologists and Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, UK (Dip RCR/RCOG) in 2005, as well as a Diploma from the Faculty of Family Planning, Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (DFFP) in 1995. Dr Mariam Awatai is a trained Level II Minimal Access Surgeon with accreditation from the British Society of Gynecology and Endoscopy, awarded in 1998. She graduated from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, MBBS in 1990 with a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery degree. Dr. Mariam started her career at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Lagos, Nigeria. She then moved to the United Kingdom in 1993 where she practiced at a number of key hospitals in London and the United Kingdom. These included the Victoria Hospital, Blackpool, King's College Hospital, St. George's Hospital as well as the Whittington Hospital, London. She also practiced at The Princess Alexandra Hospital, Colchester General Hospital and Whittington Hospital as a Specialist Registrar in Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1996 to 1999. Subsequently, she practiced at St. George's Hospital and Whittington Hospital from 1999 to 2003. In 2004, Dr. Mariam joined the Royal London Hospital as a Senior Specialist Registrar in 2004. She was appointed Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in 2009 and later moved to Barnet and Chase Farm Hospital, London in 2010, as Lead Consultant for Fetal and Maternal Medicine and Clinical Governance until 2012. Post 2012, Dr. Mariam moved to United Arab Emirates where she practiced at a well-known government hospital in Abu Dhabi, as a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecologist and Lead Clinician for Clinical Audit and Quality Improvement. She was also the Associate programme director for Family Medicine at the hospital and core member of the Post graduate medical education faculty. Dr. Mariam has nearly 25 years of experience in her field which includes teaching as well as audit, administrative and management experience. She also has a keen interest in research and has published a number of papers in key medical journals. She is a regular attendee and speaker at medical conferences and specialist courses. Dr. Mariam is also an active philanthropist and supports charity work. She has been awarded the "Best Educator of the Year Award and the Susheela John Award" in recognition of her work in her field.
