Biography

Dr. Sigmon was born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina and graduated from T.C. Roberson high school in 1999. While earning his bachelor degree in biology at UNC-Asheville, he spent time volunteering at Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry and became interested in pursuing a career in medicine. Upon graduating from UNC-Asheville in 2003, Dr. Sigmon went on to earn his medical degree from East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City, Tennessee, graduating in 2009. As a junior medical student he was chosen by his peers and instructors to be inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. In addition to this prestigious honor, he received other awards and recognition for his excellence in surgery and medicine as a medical student. Dr. Sigmon stayed at East Tennessee State University to complete an internship in Internal Medicine before going on to a Dermatology residency at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. Dr. Sigmon has participated in multiple research studies over the course of his training and presented at regional and national conferences with over ten publications in peer-reviewed journals. He also had the distinction of serving as the chief resident of dermatology at the Medical College of Georgia in his last year of residency. Dr. Sigmon has a strong interest in general medical dermatology and dermatological surgery. Dr. Sigmon is currently a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, North Carolina Dermatology Association, Western Carolina Medical Society, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology. He is on the staff of Mission Hospitals in Asheville and Spruce Pine, North Carolina. He also serves as an Adjunct Instructor for the UNC School of Medicine teaching students and residents, participates as a preceptor for several different Physician Assistant programs, and regularly sponsors local students from the MAHEC Minority Mentoring Program. Dr. Sigmon lives in Arden with his wife, Jolie, and their two children.  In his spare time he enjoys traveling, cooking, flyfishing, and hiking.
