Dr Damian Clarke Specialist Surgeon in the sub specialty of Trauma Surgery. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s School of Clinical Medicine; Head of Clinical Unit and Director of Surgical Research for the Pietermaritzburg Metropolitan Complex and Pietermaritzburg Metropolitan Trauma Service. He is also a Clinical Associate at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and an Honorary Associate Professor for the University of the Witwatersrand’s School of Clinical Medicine. Dr Clarke obtained his medical degree at the University of the Witwatersrand; his Master of Medical Science degree (UKZN) and became a Fellow of College of Surgeons of South Africa in the year 2000; Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management in 2003 (UKZN); Master of Business Administration in 2005 (UKZN); Masters in Applied Medical Ethics in 2012 (St Augustine University); and his PhD IN 2015 (UKZN). The prolific author of over 500 journal articles is also a seasoned writer of Letters, Editorials and Case Reports. He is Chairperson of the Umgungundlovu Health Ethics Review Board and an examiner for the College of Surgeons of South Africa in addition to being a member is several academic societies, Editorships, and has received numerous awards and scholarships during his career.
