Dr. Smith was born and raised in Spartanburg, SC, and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia. He then completed his doctor of medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina. Following graduation, he completed an internal medicine residency, chief residency year, and gastroenterology fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He joined the group in 2008. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Affiliations include the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American College of Gastroenterology, the North Carolina Society of Gastroenterology and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Along with his gastroenterology practice, he has special interests in esophageal disorders, liver disease, and the biliary system.
