Biography

 Dr. Diamantopoulos  studied medicine at the University of Athens, where he graduated in 1993. He completed his Orthopaedic residency at “Evangelismos Hospital”, the largest hospital in the country, in February 2003. Throughout the duration of his residency, he systematically trained in knee arthroscopy.After completion of the specialty of Orthopaedic in 2003 he moved to Germany, where he was trained for one year as a clinical fellow at the “Center for Knee and Foot Surgery, Sports Traumatology”, ATOS Clinic Heidelberg. During his fellowship he was specialized in arthroscopic procedures and surgical techniques concerning knee, foot and ankle pathology and trauma. After the fellowship he continued to work at the centre as a consultant until the end of 2005. At this time he was able to significantly increase his clinical and surgical experience, participating fully in all activities of the department (outpatient program, operating theatre, MRI evaluation).In July 2005, he was awarded the title of PhD, after completing of his doctoral thesis, with a study on “Combined ligament injuries of the knee”. In 2006 he returned to Greece. From this time until today he is working as the director of the Orthopaedic Department at the private clinic “Bioclinic Athens”, while maintaining a private practice in the centre of Athens.His main occupation is the surgical treatment of injuries and diseases of the knee, with an emphasis on arthroscopic surgery. Dr. Diamantopoulos is a specialist for knee surgery and sports injuries, with more than 3.000 knee surgeries performed personally, including surgery of cruciate ligaments and combined ligament injuries of the knee, meniscus surgery, cartilage transplantation and knee arthroplasty and osteotomies.He has participated in many international and greek conferences and seminars, both as speaker and as an instructor. He has also published a significant number of articles in international journals (American Journal of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Journal, etc), specifically focused on arthroscopic knee surgery.He is a founding member of the Hellenic Arthroscopic Association (EAE) and a member of the Hellenic Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (EEXOT) and the German-speaking Society for Arthroscopy and Joint-surgery (AGA).
