Dr. William D. Townsend, OD, FAAO was a Consultant at the VA Medical Center in Amarillo, Texas for eleven years. Dr. Townsend serves as a Member of Clinical Advisory Board at TearLab Corporation. He serves as a Member of Clinical Advisory Panel at SBH Holdings LLC. He conducts research in pharmaceutical agents, contact lens materials and solutions, with special emphasis on ocular surface disease and dry eye. He conducts research developing new contact lens materials, contact lens solutions, medications, and dry eye therapies. He serves as a Member of Optometry Advisory Board of NovaBay Pharmaceuticals, Inc. since September 2014. Dr. Townsend has authored several textbook chapters and since 1993, he has been a contributing editor to Contact Lens Spectrum as well as a frequent contributor to other optometric journals. He is the Distinguished Visiting Clinician in Residence at the University of Houston College of Optometry and as an adjunct professor at that institution. Dr. Townsend teaches externs who rotate through his private practice. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and President of the Ocular Surface Society of Optometry.
