Biography

Prof. Dr. Ing. Werner J. Bauer serves as the Chief Technology Officer of Nestlé (Thai) Ltd. Prof. Dr. Ing. Bauer served as the Chief Technology Officer of Nestlé S.A. from October 19, 2006 to August 31, 2013 and served as its Executive Vice President from 2002 to August 31, 2013 and also as its Head of Innovation Technology Research & Development. He held various managerial positions of increasing responsibility at Nestlé from 1990 to 2002. He served as a Member of Executive Board of Nestlé S.A. until September 1, 2013. He served as the Head of Programming Service at Ertec GmbH. He served as an Ad Interim Head of Strategic Business Units Marketing & Sales of Nestlé since November 30, 2008. He served as an Executive Vice President of Technical, Production, Environment, Research and Development of Nestlé S.A. since 2002. He served as Managing Director of Nestlé South and East Africa since 2000, Technical Manager since 1998 and as its Head of Nestlé Research and Development since 1996 and also served as the Head of Nestlé Research Center, Lausanne since 1990. He has been with Nestlé since 1990 and served as its General Manager since 2002. Prof. Dr. Ing. Bauer serves as the Chairman of Hans Rychiger AG and Sofinol S.A. He has been the Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Nestlé Deutschland AG since 2007. He has been the Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Bertelsmann Foundation since 2011. He has been the Chairman of Galderma Pharma since 2011. He has been a Vice Chairman of Supervisory Board at Bertelsmann SE & Co. KGaA since May 15, 2017. He serves as a Vice Chairman of Life Ventures S.A and Nutrition-Wellness Venture AG. He has been Vice Chairman and Director of Givaudan SA since July 13, 2017 and March 2014 respectively. He serves as a Director of Nestlé Health Science S.A, Sofinol S.A.,Nutrition-Wellness Venture AG and Life Ventures S.A. He serves as a Director of L'Oreal India Pvt. Ltd., and Uprona (Canada) Ltd. He has been a Member of the Supervisory Board at GEA Group Aktiengesellschaft (alternate name GEA-Group AG) since August 4, 2011. He has been an Independent Director at Lonza Group Ltd since April 9, 2013. He serves as a Member of Supervisory Board at Cereal Partners Worldwide and Bertelsmann SE & Co. KGaA. Prof. Dr. Ing. Bauer serves as a Member of Board of Trustees at Bertelsmann Foundation, Germany and Board Member of the Swiss Society of Chemical Industries. He served as a Director of L'Oreal SA from April 26, 2005 to April 17, 2012 and Alcon Inc., since March 2002. He served as a Director at Fraunhofer Institute for Food Technology & Packaging Professor in Food Processing, Technical University, Munich from 1985 to 1990. He was a Professor of Chemical Engineering at Technical University, Hamburg from 1980 to 1985 and as Assistant Professor, Chemical Engineering at University Erlangen-Nürnberg since 1975. In 1994, he received Marcel Loncin Research Prize from Institute of Food Technologists and in 1995 the Prix de la Science et de l'Alimentation from International Academy of Gastronomes. Prof. Dr. Ing. Bauer holds a Chemical Engineering, Diploma and a Ph.D. from the University Erlangen-Nürnberg.
