Bourne graduated from the University of Nottingham in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in animal nutrition, focusing on nutrition and production. He followed this with a Master of Philosophy degree from the University of Nottingham in 1996, studying the role of enzymes in animal nutrition. Upon graduating, he spent six years working as the company nutritionist for Cranswick Group PLC, responsible for diet formulation, research and technical support. Bourne joined Alltech in July 1990, based in Thailand, to establish business in the Asia-Pacific Region. In 1994, hemoved back to the United Kingdom, with responsibility for both the European and Asia-Pacific markets, and to lead and launch the Mycotoxin Management Program.
