Stephen B. Shohet, M.D. has been the Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco since 1976.  In 2004, Dr. Shohet became an Emeritus Professor at the University of California, San Francisco. He is a hematologist by specialty and has served as an expert consultant in numerous capacities representing prestigious institutions including the National Cancer Institute, the American Society of Hematology and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. Dr. Shohet has extensive experience in the research and analysis of red cell membrane physiology, biochemistry, and architecture and directed the Hematology Department at the University of California, San Francisco. In 1976, Dr. Shohet also became Director of the Cancer Research Institute at the University. He received an A.B. from Harvard College in English Literature and holds an M.D. from Harvard Medical School. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, has over 200 publications in scholarly journals, and has been the recipient of numerous awards. We believe that Dr. Shohet’s medical background as well as his years of experience in scientific academia brings valuable technical insight and knowledge to the Board of Director’s.
