Dr. Jackson has been President of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute since 1999. She was Chair of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission under President Clinton from 1995 to 1999, and Professor of Physics at Rutgers University and consultant to AT&T Bell Laboratories from 1991 to 1995. Dr. Jackson served as a member of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) from 2009-2014. She is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the American Philosophical Society and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Physical Society. She is a trustee of the Brookings Institution, a Life Trustee of M.I.T. and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
She is also a director of FedEx Corporation, Public Service Enterprise Group and International Business Machines Corporation. She previously served as a director of Marathon Oil Corporation, NYSE Euronext and U.S. Steel Corporation.
