She was Chair of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission under President Clinton from 1995 to 1999, and Professor of Physics at Rutgers University and consultant to AT&T Bell Laboratories from 1991 to 1995. Dr. Jackson served as a member of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) from 2009-2014. She is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the American Philosophical Society and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Physical Society. She is a trustee of the Brookings Institution, a Life Trustee of M.I.T. and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
She is also a director of FedEx Corporation, Public Service Enterprise Group and International Business Machines Corporation. She previously served as a director of Marathon Oil Corporation, NYSE Euronext and U.S. Steel Corporation.
