Sheila was appointed President of Washington College in August 2015. Prior to her appointment, she was Senior Advisor to The Pew Charitable Trusts for four years and the Chairwoman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) from 2006-2011. Sheila was also a Senior Advisor to DLA Piper, an international law firm. Earlier, Sheila was the Dean's Professor of Financial Regulatory Policy for the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. She also served in various roles such as Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Senior Vice President for Government Relations at the New York Stock Exchange, and Commissioner and Acting Chairwoman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Sheila is a director of Host Hotels & Resorts, Inc. and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Ltd. She also serves on the boards of two non-public financial companies, itBit USA and Avant. She has a BA and law degree from the University of Kansas.
