Dr. Shahrokh Esfandiari is a practicing clinician scientist and the first Canadian dentist with official trainings in Health Technology Assessment (HTA). He has obtained his B.Sc. in Biochemistry from McGill University (1990), followed by a year of M.Sc. in Medicinal Chemistry at University of Ottawa (1991). He completed his dental trainings at Université Laval (1995), and continued onto another MSc in “International Health Technology Assessment and Management” at Université de Montréal (2008), along with his PhD in “Oral Health Technology Assessment” at McGill University (2008).
While remaining a hands-on clinician, he conducts and teaches on how to perform HTA reports. Dr. Esfandiari is the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and is an appointed Associate Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry of McGill University. His main research focus is on integrating Evidence-Based Dentistry and HTA into the undergraduate dental curriculum, aiming to improve clinical decision-making skills of our dental graduates. Dr. Esfandiari is also an ITI fellow and conducts clinical trials in the field of Implantology.
