Dr. Sef P. Kurstjens, M.D., Ph.D. serves as Chief Medical Officer at Astellas Pharma Inc. Dr. Kurstjens has been the President of Astellas Pharma Global Development, Inc. since October 2013. Dr. Kurstjens serves as Chief Medical Officer of Astellas Pharma, Inc. Dr. Kurstjens served as the President and the Chief Executive Officer at Agensys, Inc. since November 2010. Dr. Kurstjens served as the Senior Vice President, Chief Medical Officer and Head, Global Drug Development at Allergan Inc. Prior to joining Allergan in 2007, he served as Senior Vice President of Research and Development at Astellas Pharma US, Inc. since December 2005. He served as Senior Vice President of Research and Development at Fujisawa Healthcare, Inc. He has been a Director of California Healthcare Institute since August 10, 2011. He entered the pharmaceutical industry in 1991 and has held positions of increasing responsibility in Pfizer Global Research and Development in both Europe and the US. Dr. Kurstjens received his advanced degrees in medicine and experimental physiology from University of the Witwatersrand Medical School in Johannesburg before practicing pediatrics in both South Africa and the United Kingdom.
