Mr. Robert (Bob) C. Lawrence, III has been a Partner of Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP since 1974 and serves as its Chairman of the Private Client Department. Mr. Lawrence is recognized as a leading authority in both international and domestic tax, trust and personal planning matters. He concentrates on advising wealthy individuals and families with regard to international and domestic tax-efficient structures for their U.S. and global holdings with emphasis on the minimization of taxation, the management of those holdings and the transfer of them to family members, entities, trusts and/or charities. In addition, Mr. Lawrence spends considerable time in resolving disputes among family members and between families and fiduciaries. He joined Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft in 1966. He is admitted to practice in the State of New York (1964), the State of New Jersey (1966), the United States Court of Appeals (2nd Cir. 1976), the United States District Courts (S.D.N.Y. 1976) (D.N.J. 1966), the United States Tax Courts (1969) and the United States Supreme Court (1980). He served as President of The International Academy of Estate and Trust Law. He serves as Chair of the Private Client Department. He served as Chairman of the International Estate Planning Subcommittee of the Tax Section of the American Bar Association. From 1982 to 1985, he served as Chairman of the New York City Bar Association Committee on Recruitment of Lawyers. He serves as a Member of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (International Estate Planning Committee) and a member of The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners International Committee. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association, Committee Member of the International Estate and Tax Planning Committee, and Member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. He also serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of International Trust and Corporate Planning and he is a member of the Planned Giving Group Advisory Committee of the Museum of Modern Art. In addition, he was recognized as one of the world’s leading International Private Client Attorneys by Chambers Global 2006 and Chambers USA 2006. He has been named to the Citywealth Top 100 Wealth Advisors and Managers list for North America. He was also selected by Euromoney Publications as one of the top 100 U.S. tax lawyers and by several publications and organizations as one of the best trust, estate and tax lawyers in the United States. Finally, he has appeared in Who's Who in Law, Who's Who in America, and The Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Lawrence is a 1960 graduate of Cornell University with a B.A. in Government, and received his LL.B. from New York University School of Law in 1963, and his LL.M. (Taxation) in 1966.
