Biography

 Dr. Richard M. Bergenstal, M.D. serves as a Principal Investigator of three NIH trials: the DCCT/EDIC in T1D, the ACCORD follow-up and GRADE study in T2D. Dr. Bergenstal served as President at Medicine and Science at American Diabetes Association Inc since 2010. He serves as a Member of Scientific Advisors of Intuity Medical, Inc. Dr. Bergenstal served as Vice President of Medicine and Science of American Diabetes Association, Inc. He serves as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Valeritas Holdings, Inc. (also known as Valeritas, LLC). He serves as Member of Advisory Board at CeQur SA. He serves as a Director of American Diabetes Association Inc. He served as a Member of Medical Advisory Board of Metrika, Inc. Dr. Bergenstal served as an Executive Director of International Diabetes Center at Park Nicollet. He served as Member of Clinical Advisory board of Dexcom, Inc. He served as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Mannkind Corporation. He joined the International Diabetes Center in 1983. his clinical research has focused on glucose control and diabetes complications. He studies the effective utilization of insulin therapy and glucose monitoring, as well as other new technologies to improve glucose control and clinical outcomes. Dr. Bergenstal teaches nationally and internationally on the importance of developing new models of care built around patient-centered team care and has published over 150 peer reviewed scientific articles. He is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Minnesota. He was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at University of Chicago. Dr. Bergenstal is a MD from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine Chicago and his Endocrine Fellowship from University of Chicago.
