Biography

 R. David Hoover retired from Ball Corporation as chief executive officer in January 2011 after 41 years of service. He retired as chairman of the board of directors in 2013 and continues to serve as a director. Ball is a provider of high-quality packaging for beverage, food and household products customers, and of aerospace and other technologies and services, primarily for the U.S. government. He was elected to the board of directors of Eli Lilly and Company in 2009. A native of Straughn, Indiana, he received a bachelor’s degree in economics from DePauw University in 1967 and his MBA in finance and real estate from Indiana University in 1970. He also completed the advanced management program at Harvard University Graduate School of Business, Boston, in 1988. Hoover was the chairman, president and chief executive officer of Ball Corporation from April 2002 until January 2010, having been elected president and chief executive officer in January 2001. He was chairman and chief executive officer until January 2011. Hoover joined Ball Corporation in 1970. During his career, he has served as vice president, finance and administration, of both the company’s agricultural systems division and the company’s aerospace systems group. He was elected vice president and treasurer in 1988 and senior vice president and chief financial officer in 1992. He was named executive vice president and elected to the company’s board of directors in 1996. In 1998, he was elected vice chairman, in addition to the role of chief financial officer. Hoover became president of Ball Corporation in January 2000 and was named chief operating officer in April 2000. Hoover is a member of the boards of Ball Corporation and Edgewell Personal Care Company. He is a former member of the board of the National Association of Manufacturers and a former member and past chair of the board of governors of the Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI). Hoover is a member and past chair of the board of trustees of DePauw University and on the Indiana University Kelley School of Business Dean’s Council. He is a director of Children’s Hospital Colorado and a member of the Colorado Forum. He also served on the boards of Irwin Financial Corporation, Qwest International, Inc. and Steelcase, Inc.
