Philip M. Zimmerman I recently completed and submitted for printing an absolutely radical wake-up call and baby-boomer challenging dissertation entitled:”An Evaluation of the Acceptance of a Coaching Program to Enhance Engagement, Productivity, and Loyalty For the Personal Fulfillment and Dignity of Millennial Employees in the Work Place.” This dissertation was the culmination of five years of work on an applied research project in a Leadership Doctoral Program. This applied research project turns on its head much of the written about, discussed, and widely consulted-on topic of how to assimilate Millennial employees into the workforce. An extensive literature review indicated that the observations and thinking of the far majority of the literature prior to 2014 were written by Baby Boomers and/or Gen-X’ers who thought the Millennials were broken and needed fixing. More recent large generational studies and surveys indicate just the opposite may be true and that the Millennials may in-fact be the greatest generation in the history of the world. The wake-up call is for those companies whose current leadership teams are made up of Baby-Boomers and Gen-X’ers. If these companies do not make a Leadership Transfusion in the next three to five years they could see dramatic drops in business and/or may not be in business within seven to ten years. The Leadership Transfusion involves the conveyance of irreplaceable institutional knowledge, understanding, and wisdom from old guard pillars and leaders into Millennial cohorts. Empowered Millennial leaders will assimilate and synthesize the transfusion content and create business strategies, product lines, and technologies not yet even envisioned. Consider how quickly we have gone from the bag phone to metadata repositories of information being mined without knowledge or approval of the owner by Amazon, Google, and of course the Chinese (Boomers and X’ers invented this technology). If you can understand the magnitude of that example then you can sense the coming flip in the way business is transacted. If not prepared companies will simply cease to exist due to a lack of business while new companies providing the same services will be absolutely swamped with work. This is not simply a local United States issue but rather a global phenomenon. In-fact because it is global means that the totality of the flip will be global as well. I will be blogging on this topic for some time to come as I also coach, consult, and continue my research. There are also up to four or more different books that demand to be written from the research findings that I will be working on as well.
