Francis, age 65, has been a Director of PetSmart since June 1989. He was named Executive Chairman in June 2009 and held that position until January 2012. He served as our Chief Executive Officer from March 1998 to June 2009. In September 1999, he was also named Chairman of the Board, and from 1998 to 2001, he was also the President of PetSmart. From 1991 to 1998, he held various positions with Shaws Supermarkets, Inc., a subsidiary of J Sainsbury plc, including Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and President. Prior to that he held several senior management positions for Roundys, Inc., Cardinal Health, Inc., and the Jewel Companies, Inc. Mr. Francis serves on the boards of Supervalu Inc. and Care Fusion, Inc. During the prior five years, Mr. Francis served on the board of Cardinal Health, Inc. Philip L. Francis announced his intent to retire from the Board effective June 14, 2013 and therefore not stand for re-election at the 2013 Annual Meeting.
