Primary Health Care chief executive Peter Gregg has resigned from the top job at the $2 billion group after being charged by the corporate watchdog with falsifying documents when working for construction group Leighton Holdings. Mr Gregg will stay in his role until the health care group has completed an internal and external search for a new CEO, Primary Health Care said in a statement on Friday. The search is expected to take several months. The Australian Securities and Investment Commission has charged Mr Gregg with two counts of falsifying company documents in 2011 when he was chief financial officer of construction group Leighton (now known as CIMIC) and has ordered him to appear at Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court on January 31. Mr Gregg has denied breaching any civil or criminal law. Primary's board spent three days considering how to respond to the ASIC charges, which were revealed on Monday, and considered several options. Mr Gregg's resignation was considered to be in the company and the CEO's mutual interest
