PhD in Electromechanical Higher Engineering from ICAI and an MBA from ICADE. In 1970 he joined Bankinter to develop his professional career, holding various positions of responsibility and in 1985 he was appointed Senior Managing Director. In 1993 he was appointed Chief Executive Officer and from 2002 to April 2007 he was Chairman. He is currently Board member of Ferrovial, PRISA, Meliá, Dinamia and Everis, and member of the European Advisory Board of the Harvard Business School, Chairman of the professional board of ESADE and Board member of the Deusto Business School. From 2009-10 he was a lecturer at Harvard Business School. He has been awarded the “Great Cross of the Order of Civil Merit” for his work as member of the Special Commission of Studies on Information Society Development.
