Michael Armstrong leads Smiths Medical’s Global Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance (RAQA) function. His focus is to drive transformation through increased accountability, improved productivity and accelerated execution while maintaining robust product and quality systems performance. He joined the organization in September 2015. Michael has extensive experience within the medical device industry in a wide variety of fields such as cardiac, vascular, neurological and general surgery, interventional cardiology, cardiac rhythm management, neuromodulation, and orthopaedics. Prior to Smiths, Michael served as Vice President of Global Quality, at Greatbatch, Inc. where he built a robust quality infrastructure that successfully transformed independent facilities into an integrated group of quality systems. He additionally deployed a business process harmonization strategy to improve business performance, increase productivity and align core business processes across multinational locations. Prior to Greatbach, Michael spent a number of years at Medtronic's Cardiovascular and Spine divisions in progressively more senior Quality roles. While at Medtronic Cardiovascular, Michael was responsible for all aspects of Quality development activities from initial research and development through product launch, including pharmaceutical testing requirements, compliance, and initial product failure investigation. Earlier in his career Michael held various leadership roles in Quality at Northstar Neuroscience and Guidant Cardiac and Vascular Surgery. Michael holds a Master of Bioengineering from the University of Washington, and a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota.
