Biography

Mariano Garcia-Valiño is Chief Executive Officer at GBT. Mariano was the chief architect in the conception and building of GBT, establishing its strategic model and guiding the company through its successive acquisitions and transformations, first while working as an operating partner for Advent International, GBT`s main investor, and later stepping-in as the company`s CEO. Formerly, Mariano served as Executive Vice President and President, Latin America at Bausch+Lomb, in a turnaround project backed by private equity firm Warburg Pincus. Mariano was a member of the 12-people global leadership team that turned the 160-years, $3B-revenue company around, re-igniting its growth, profitability and pipeline. The company was taken private, renovated and subsequently sold, realizing an increase in its equity value of approximately 3x. Prior to B+L, he was an advisor to Warburg Pincus, where he analyzed new investment opportunities in the area of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. Previously, he spent eight years with Pfizer, the world´s largest research-based pharmaceutical company, where he served in multiple roles, based alternatively in New York and in Sao Paulo. During his time at Pfizer, he run country-based operations, participated in global M&A efforts and managed broad multi-country post-merger integrations. Earlier in his career, he held positions with McKinsey and Company in Madrid and Eli Lilly in Buenos Aires. Over the past two decades, Mariano has led over 25 transactions in many geographies. Mr. Garcia-Valiño holds an Engineering degree from Universidad de Buenos Aires and an MBA from the Harvard Business School, for which he earned a Fulbright scholarship.
