Leiv Rieger, PhD, P.Eng., specializes in monitoring, control, and modeling of biological wastewater treatment processes. A focus of his work is to develop new tools for data quality evaluation with respect to on-line sensors. Leiv is chairman of the IWA Task Group on “Good Modelling Practice – Guidelines for use of Activated Sludge Models”, where the focus is to make modeling more practical for industries and consultants. He is the Vice-Chair of the Management Committee of the IWA Specialist Groups on Instrumentation, Control and Automation and an elected member of the Management Committee of the IWA Specialist Group on Modelling and Integrated Assessment. He is also the Chair of the Water Environment Federation (WEF) sub-committee MEGA (Modeling Expert Group of the Americas), member of the WEF committees Municipal Resource Recovery Design (MRRD), Automation and Information Technology (AIT), and Plant Operation & Maintenance (POM). Leiv chaired the scientific committees of the 1st and 2nd IWA/WEF Wastewater Treatment Modelling Seminar (WWTmod).
