Joseph Petrone serves as Chair of the School of Dental Medicine’s Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and as Program Director of Department’s Advanced Education Program. Additionally, he is the Assistant Dean for Residency Education. Dr. Petrone is Assistant Professor of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics with a secondary appointment in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. In 1985, he graduated from the School of Dentistry at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and continued his education at the School of Dentistry at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland where he received a Certificate of Completion and Master of Dental Science degree in Orthodontics. Dr. Petrone was then appointed as a part-faculty member in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Pittsburgh in 1991 and became a full-time faculty member in 1995. He received his MPH degree from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health in 2005. Dr. Petrone maintains an active private practice and focuses his teaching efforts in the treatment of patients with dentofacial deformities. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists and the American College of Dentists, where he serves as a Director of the Western Pennsylvania Section.
