Biography

Jonathan was educated at the University of Oxford where he obtained his M.A. and D.Phil. in Chemistry. Subsequently the Faculty of Medicine awarded him a D.Sc. In May 2004 he joined The School of Pharmacy, University of London where he is professor of Biophysical chemistry. He has held academic posts at the Universities of London, Strathclyde, Nottingham, Cardiff and Greenwich. During his career he has been involved in the supervision of over 60 Ph.D. students. He holds visiting professorships at the North West University, Potchefstroom, South Africa and Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. His major research interests are in the application of physical chemistry to drug delivery, with special reference to the skin. He has been elected to Fellowships of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists and was a founder member of Skin Forum. Over the years he has contributed to over 500 publications and serves on editorial boards of the major pharmaceutical science journals. He has given numerous plenary lectures in Europe, the US, Japan and Australasia. He consults for the industry on aspects of drug delivery particularly concentrating on dermal and transdermal delivery.
