Research Intrest

I'm a molecular biologist with expertise in stem-cell biology. My research is focused on understanding how stem cells in the central nervous system are regulated at the molecular level during the formation of the central nervous system. Another important focus of my lab is to examine molecular similarities and differences between healthy neural stem cells and cells contributing to the development of glioma. At the Ludwig Institute in Stockholm, I head a research group of eight PhD students and post-doctorals. I am also a lecturer for medical molecular biology undergraduates and a professor of molecular biology at the Karolinska Institute. Education PhD thesis on developmental neurobiology, Umeå University, Sweden. PhD awarded June 4, 1999 Postdoctoral Fellow, Cell- and Molecular Biology, Karolinska Institute, 1999-2003 Achievements The Swedish Association of Scientists prize for best thesis in biology, 1999 Post-doctoral Fellowship, Swedish Brain foundation, 2000-01 Research Fellow, Swedish Research Council, 2003-06 Senior Research Fellow, Swedish Natural Research Council, 2007-12 Sven and Ebba-Christina Hagberg’s prize, 2009 Appointed Professor at the Karolinska Institute, 2012
