I am a biologist with a broad scientific interest in developmental, stem-cell and tumor biology. I am particularly interested in the mechanisms governing the generation of mature neurons from multipotent stem cells and how this acquired identity is maintained throughout the lifespan of the organism. In addition to exploring the fundamental mechanisms of neuronal differentiation, my research aims to understand how the loss or gain of key regulators can influence tumor formation in the nervous system. My group is addressing these issues with a combination of approaches ranging from basic in vivo developmental and stem-cell techniques to an attempt to mitigate tumor growth in a mouse xenograft model of neuroblastoma through delivery of a novel combination of cytostatic agents. In addition to my Ludwig research activities, I am affiliated with the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology and an associate member of the Linnaeus Center in Developmental Biology for Regenerative Medicine at the Karolinska Institute.
