Dr. Szebeni is a renowned expert in complement system research. He introduced the term Complement Activation Related Pseudoallergy (CARPA), and is editor of the book Complement: Novel Roles in Health and Disease. His work in the past has encompassed a range of topics, including liposome-based blood substitutes, HIV therapy and bone marrow transplantation. He has spent most of his professional career in the United States at the Walter Reed Institute and the National Institutes of Health.
