Biography

  Mr. Jean-Daniel Gerber serves as the Chairman of the Board of The Swiss Investment Fund for Emerging Markets. Mr. Gerber has been an Independent Director at Lonza Group AG (formerly Lonza Group Ltd) since April 2011. He is a Board Member of different companies and benevolent societies. He served as a Director of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and its State Secretary from 2004 to 2011. He served as a Director at Credit Suisse Group AG from 2012 to April 24, 2015. He served as Executive Director at the World Bank from 1993 to 1997 and Dean of the Executive Directors of the World Bank Group from 1996 to 1997 and Minister and Head of the Economic, Financial and Commercial Office of the Swiss Embassy. Mr. Gerber served as Head of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, a function from which he retired in 2011. Mr. Gerber served as a Director of Credit Suisse AG since 2012 and Independent Director at Credit Suisse (USA), Inc. since 2012. He also served as Director of Federal Office for Migration (at this time Federal Office for Refugees) in the Federal Department of Justice and Police from 1997 to 2004. He served as Chief of Section for Developing Countries in the Federal Office for Foreign Economic Affairs from 1991 to 1992. He was in the trade sector as Swiss representative in the World Trade Organisation. He served as Director of the Swiss Federal Office of Migration from 1994 to 2004. During his career in the service of the Swiss Confederation, he has been active in various areas of responsibility since 1973. He was awarded with an Honorary Doctorate by the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences of the University of Bern in 2008. He holds a lic.rer.pol in Economics from the University of Bern in 1972.
