Garry Charnock was a experienced technical communicator having spent 30 years combining my journalism and engineering skills.He spent the early part of my career working as a hydrologist before retraining as a journalist with New Civil Engineer magazine where he was awarded International Engineering Journalist of the Year. He became a foreign correspondent working in Egypt, Sudan, Kenya, Malawi and Burundi - writing for UK national and trade press. After a spell as technical editor for World Water magazine, I moved to Dubai where I worked as the Middle East communications consultant for Schlumberger Oilfield Services. In 1988 I set up Technical Editing Services (tes) - a specialist technical communications agency that became the largest of its kind in the UK. In 2005. He started the 'Ashton Hayes Going Carbon Neutral Project' by encouraging my local community to try to become England's first carbon neutral village. This led to me meeting a project sponsor, RSK Group, and the eventual merger of tes with RSK in Autumn 2007. He was now an Executive Director of the RSK Group and also spend 50% of my time on not-for-profit climate change work. In 2011.
