Biography

Dr. Hazem Aqel is a professor in Medical Microbiology at King Saud Bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences. He obtained his B.Sc. degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from Kuwait University/Kuwait, his M.Sc. degree in General and Medical Microbiology from University College London/UK, and his Ph.D. in Microbiology from Birmingham University/UK. He has pioneered structural studies of isolation and characterization of thermophilic bacteria and bacteriophages, bacterial enzymatic activities, antimicrobial plant extractions, and understanding pathogenicity, latency and reactivation of viruses.
