Biography

Chittum is the current chairman of the Division of Neurosurgery at Spartanburg Regional Hospital. He is a board-certified neurosurgeon who received his training at the Medical University of South Carolina under the tutelage of Sunil Patel, MD, chairman of Neurological Surgery. His neurosurgery training included seven full years of inclusive spinal treatments unlike “fellowship” trained spine surgeons who often only get one year of spine training. He was the first surgeon to use robotic guidance for lumbar and thoracic spinal fusion in both North and South Carolina. He currently has used robotic guidance for this procedure more than any other surgeon in the Carolinas. He treats traumatic fractures, acute and degenerative disk problems and incorporates all non-surgical therapies as well to treat these conditions. He is trained in the use of artificial disk replacement for the cervical spine when indicated.
