In later years he was involved in in-service education and training for health service staff. Following the death of his wife Gina from cancer in 2006, he became involved in fundraising for Cancer Focus Northern Ireland. He is also involved in suicide prevention and supporting those bereaved by suicide in his local community. Jimmy is a retired Nurse Education Consultant.
