Biography

Dr. Brima Kargbo born in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone and attended the Government Secondary School for Boys before proceeding to Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone in 1978/79 academic year . In the year, 1979 awarded a scholarship to read General Medicine in Romania.Graduated in 1986 from the University of Craiova, Romania. Returned home the same year and worked in the major government hospitals. In 1990 posted to the Lungi Government Hospital as medical Officer in charge. After two years, was awarded a Commonwealth scholarship to pursue a postgraduate course in Public Health Medicine at the University of Leeds, United Kingdom where he obtained a Master of Public Health degree( MPH).Returned home again in 1993 and posted as District Medical Officer to Port Loko in the northern part of Sierra Leone. In 1994, he was subsequently appointed National Coordinator of the Onchocerciasis Control Programme from 1994‐2001. During his tenure as Onchocerciasis Control Coordinator, he pursued a certificate course in Epidemiology and Control of Communicable Diseases at the University of Nairobi, Kenya with sponsorship from the World Health Organization(WHO) In 2002, he was appointed Programme Manager, National AIDS Control Programme and later became Team Leader of the HIV Health Sector Response within the Sierra Leone HIV/AIDS Response Project supported by the World Bank. In 2006, he was made the Director of the National AIDS Secretariat until this year in July 2013 , when he was appointed Chief Medical Officer of the Republic of Sierra Leone. Due to his leadership and commitment in stabilizing HIV/AIDS in our country, Dr. KARGBO was honoured by His Excellency, the President in 2011 with Grand Officer of the Order of the Rokel(GOOR).
