I am a molecular and cell biologist with special expertise in signal transduction and cell differentiation. I study these biological processes in the context of cancer and try to understand how tumor cells alter their behavior using signal transduction pathways and eliciting changes in their differentiation. This approach generates significant opportunities to generate new methods of treating cancers, collectively called differentiation therapy. Since my doctoral studies, I have published more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters, including a definitive book on TGFβ and its roles in human disease. I am a member of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and am a faculty member in the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology at Uppsala University.
