Growing up on a farm at Waeraenga-a-hika on the Poverty Bay Flats I developed a passion for the outdoors at a young age. After leaving school I did an apprentice ship as a Heavy Equipment Automotive Engineer specialising in field service work on farms and forests around the East Coast. In the late 80’s I started working for a logging company as their mechanic and machine operator. This kick started a very enjoyable career in the logging industry spanning the last 26 years.
Over this time I developed a passion for tall tower difficult logging and rigging and managed seven cable logging crews comprising 75 staff along the East Coast north of Gisborne.
