Biography

 Alan J. Levy, Ph.D. has been a member of our Board of Directors since February 2000 and has served as the independent lead director since April 2013. Dr. Levy is currently the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Chrono Therapeutics, a privately-held digital drug producer company, which he joined in February 2014. He is also a Senior Advisor at Frazier Healthcare Ventures since 2012. He was a Venture Partner at Frazier Healthcare Ventures from 2007 to 2012. From June 2010 to January 2013 he was the Chief Executive Officer of Incline Therapeutics, Inc., a novel drug/device company that was acquired by the Medicines Company in 2013. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Northstar Neuroscience, Inc. (“Northstar Neuroscience”), a medical device company he co-founded, from 2007 to 2009. Prior to that, he was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Northstar Neuroscience from 1999 to 2007. From 1993 to 1998, Dr. Levy served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Heartstream, Inc., a medical device company that was acquired by Hewlett-Packard in 1998. Prior to joining Heartstream, Inc., he was President of Heart Technology, Inc. (“Heart Technology”), a medical device company that was acquired by Boston Scientific in 1995. Before joining Heart Technology, Dr. Levy was Vice President of Research and New Business Development and a member of the Board of Directors of Ethicon, a division of Johnson & Johnson. Dr. Levy holds a B.S. in Chemistry from City University of New York and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Purdue University. Dr. Levy currently serves as a director of several private companies and not-for-profit organizations.
