Virginia Patricia Bustos Arcos born in Iguala, Guerrero and got the Bachelor Degree in Industrial Chemistry, in the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos, in Cuernavaca. In 1990 she became a member of the Centro de Investigación Sobre Fijación de Nitrógeno, now Centro de Ciencias Genómicas. She worked under the direction of Dr. Francisco Lara Ochoa in the program of Theoretical Biology, developing models on population dynamics of bacteria. Later, in 1992 she moved to the laboratory of Dr. Rafael Palacios where she grown to be a competent technician in Molecular Biology. She was in charge of the first automatic DNA sequencer installed in Latin America. Since 1995, she has worked in the group of Dr. Guillermo Dávila, taking part in different projects. She had an important role in the “R. etli Genome Project” by achieving the assembly of the genome. Along her career she has published several research articles and book chapters as coauthor.
