Biography

Undergraduate studies at the University of Athens (B.A. in Physical Education and Sport Science, 1985). Graduate studies at Boston University, USA (M.Ed. Curriculum and Teaching in Physical Education, 1990) and at the Ohio State University, USA (Ph.D., Teacher Education in Physical Education and Teacher Education in General Education, 1993) with scholarships from the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports and Ohio State University. She has taught at the Ohio State University, USA (Lecturer 1993-1994) and at the Democritus University of Thrace (Teaching Assignment on a Special Contract, 1995). She is with the Department of Education at the University of Cyprus since 1995 (Lecturer 1995-2002, Assistant Professor, 2002-2007, Associate Professor 2008). She was also a visiting scholar at the Ohio State University, School of Physical Activity and Educational Services (2001, spring). She is a recipient of the “Young Researcher Award” from the International Association for Physical Education in Higher Education (AIESEP) in 2001 and the “Metzler-Freedman Exemplary Paper Award” from the Journal of Teaching in Physical Education in 2004. She has published extensively on teaching and teacher education in physical education and made numerous presentations on teacher education topics at international conferences and professional workshops. She is editorial board member of the Journal of Teaching in Physical Education and quest reviewer for other research journals. She is a co-chair of the committee for the Cyprus National Curriculum in Physical Education, appointed by the Cypriot Minister of Education and Culture. She is also an External Examiner for the University of Limerick, for the programme – PESS- Graduated Diploma in Education (Physical Education).
