Teevrat was a researcher with the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment from August 2015 until July 2016 when he took up a position as an Assistant Professor of Economics at the School of Global Policy and Strategy at the University of California, San Diego. Whilst at the Institute Teevrat worked on a variety of issues in economics, with a focus on applications to environmental problems in poor countries. His research projects included uncovering causal mechanisms that link ecosystem health to human health, solutions to the ‘commons’ problem with an emphasis on irrigation in rural communities in poor countries and the distributional consequences of adaptation to climate change. He liaised actively with international organizations such as the World Bank. In addition to working with economists, Teevrat worked with scholars from a range of disciplines including public health, ecology, evolutionary biology, geography, animal science, computer science and earth and atmospheric sciences.
