Stephan Klose joined the Institute for European Studies as a doctoral researcher in October 2014. Stephan’s research project aims at understanding change and continuity in the EU’s performance as an international actor. Concretely, his research project seeks to investigate how the EU’s ambition to establish itself as a more ‘credible’ international security actor reflects in its performance within particular contexts of its external action. His project employs an interactionist role theory framework, which seeks to identify the EU’s process of re-imagining/ re-establishing its international roles in the context of particular world regions (e.g. East Asia, the Middle East) and issue areas (e.g. counter-terrorism, migration policy). Stephan holds an MSc in Asian Studies from Lund University and a BSc in European Studies from the University of Twente.
