Stefan Tyski graduated from the Faculty of Biology of Warsaw University, graduating in 1976. For 17 years he worked at the Department of Bacteriology of the National Institute of Hygiene, then 2 years in the Central Laboratory of Serums and Vaccines. For 20 years he has been the Head of the Department of Antibiotics and Microbiology of the National Institute of Drugs.Since October 2006 he is also head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology at the Medical University of Warsaw. Since 2007 he has been an expert in the European Pharmacopoeia Commission. In 2010 he was appointed deputy chairman of the Polish Pharmacopoeia Commission.
Stefan Tyski has broad interests in the microbiology. His research thus far has focused on bacterial infection, activity and mechanisms of action of antibacterial agents - antibiotics, chemotherapeutics, disinfectants and antiseptics and mechanisms of bacterial resistance to the above factors as well as issues of pharmaceutical microbiology.
