Biography

Prior to joining LIRMM in 2009, Sarah’s background was in cell and molecular biology; she completed a BSc (Hons) at University College London (UCL) in Molecular Biology in 2002 followed by a PhD at UCL in Cell Biology in 2005. Following her PhD she spent 4 years as a Research Fellow at the Wolfson Institute for Biomedical Research, UCL exploring the DNA replication licensing machinery as a therapeutic and diagnostic cancer target. In 2009, Sarah joined the University of Leeds and is currently the Osteoarthritis Strategic Project Lead for LIRMM. Her current research includes two Arthritis Research UK funded clinical trials (PI Professor Philip Conaghan) HERO (Hydroxychloroquine Effectiveness in Reducing the symptoms of Hand OA) and PROMOTE (Pain Reduction with Oral Methotrexate in knee OA, a randomized trial of Treatment Effectiveness), two LTHT-funded studies – the Post-joint replacement follow-up clinic study with Mr Martin Stone, and an MR imaging study examining patch-assisted repair of rotator cuff tears with Mr Roger Hackney – and an observational study of multiple mechanical joint pain. Sarah also provides research support to LIRMM, with a particular focus on grant writing and project management. She has a proven track record in winning research funding either as a co-applicant or advisor and expertise in clinical trial management and regulatory approvals. Sarah coordinates the Arthritis Research UK funded Leeds Experimental Osteoarthritis Treatment Centre and is responsible for administration of the Arthritis Research UK Osteoarthritis and Crystal Diseases Clinical Studies Group.
