Biography

My Primary Medical Qualification is Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) from Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital, Darbhanga, India, which is recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI). My Specialist qualifications in Psychiatry are Diploma in Psychological Medicine (D.P.M.) and Master’s Degree (M.D.) in Psychiatry from Central Institute of Psychiatry (C.I.P.) Ranchi, India, which functions under the aegis of the Directorate General of Health Services & the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. This institute was established by the British Indian Government in the year 1918 and it happens to be one of the oldest yet modern (643 bedded) mental hospitals of Asia, catering to Adult and Child Psychiatry and other facilities such as Addiction Psychiatry, Community Psychiatry and Rehabilitation. My Psychiatry Residency was done during my D.P.M. (August 1998 to July 2000) & again during my M.D. training (August 2002 to July 2005) at C.I.P. Currently I am a regular faculty member as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Consultant atC.I.P. Ranchi India and its Center for Addiction Psychiatry.I am involved in the training of Junior Residents (Psychiatry Tranees) and students of MPhil. & PhD in Clinical Psychology, Psychiatric Social Work & Psychiatric Nursing and guiding them in their thesis and dissertation. I am also responsible for all Clinical & Administrative work of one Adult Psychiatry unit&Center for Addiction Psychiatry (60 bedded). My clinical work deals chiefly with the diagnosis and inpatient and outpatient management of adults suffering from various psychiatric disorders, referring and liaison with allied mental health professionals (psychologist, social workers, and occupational therapists), general practitioners, neurologists and other specialists and private psychiatrists. In the subspecialty of Addiction psychiatry, I am actively involved in the management of substance related problems including acute management of withdrawal and its complications and in psychopharmacological and psychosocial management of these cases and also Community Outreach Services. I have been nominated as a member of the “Medical Board”, “Ethical Committee” and “Departmental Research Committee” of the institute. I have been a Resource Person for “National Capacity Building Training Programme on Substance Use Disorders” for Medical Officers and for “Harm Reduction Training of Counsellors” at STRC (National AIDS Control Organization), Xavier Institute of Social Sciences, Ranchi. I have participated in the ToT program for Master Trainers on "Staying Safe: A manual to train Clinical Staff in IDU interventions" organised by UNODC Project - "Prevention of transmission of HIV among drug users in SAARC countries" from 24-28 January 2012. I have been a Master Trainer for “Training of Doctors and Nurses on Injecting Drug Users- Targeted Interventions” and Quality Assurance Expert on Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) Centers. My major affiliations are Vice President of Indian Psychiatric Society, Jharkhand State Branch (2015 onward), Elected General Secretary of Indian Psychiatric Society, Jharkhand State Branch from 2012 -2014; Joint Organizing Secretary of 39th Annual Conference of East Zone of Indian Psychiatric Society in 2013 at Ranchi; Organizing Secretary for Annual Conference of IPS Jharkhand State Branch in 2009. Member of the Editorial Board of Indian Journal of Social Psychiatry, 2010 – 2011.
